Wettability Studies for 3D-Printed Tablets

Tablets Production Scourtesy of DataPhysics

The pharmaceutical industry steps into the future: DFE Pharma, a company developing excipient blends
for the formulation of pharmaceutical drugs, is researching 3D printing as a innovative way to produce tablets.

The technology is especially interesting whenever small batches of tablets are needed, as for example in clinical trials or for individualised medicine. When developing excipient-API-powders for 3D printing, the powder wettability and flow are crucial factors. To gain insights into the wetting behaviour of powders, DFE Pharma is using an optical contact angle measuring and contour analysis system of the OCA-series, developed by DataPhysics Instruments.
